Car insurance groups and the variation in cost

The cost of car insurance is all dependant on the risk that you pose to the insurance company. Factors which effect this most is age and the car that you drive. Insurance companies will normally have lower premiums the older you get as you have been driving for a longer period and are thought to be less irresponsible. When an completing a car insurance application the main aspect of the process is completing the car details. To be able to offer you insurance the insurance company will need to know the exact model and make of the car. It will go into greater depth but they can normally find out the particulars through the registration number.

All car insurance providers will use similar methods and the car structuring system to price up a car insurance policy. Car insurance groups help insurance companies determine how high or low an insurance policy should be. The comprehensive grouping systems is set up to band cars on a scale of 1-50. One being the lowest specification, cheaper models and 50 being the most expensive car and model such as a Ferrari. When looking at purchasing a new car you should check out which car insurance group that car falls into. It can give you a rough indication how much your policy will be and if it is to the higher end of the scale the insurance premiums may become unaffordable.

There are five main factors which effect how a car will be grouped. Insurance providers will take into consideration how much the car will take to repair in the event of it being involved in an accident, the cost of the car brand new, cost of new parts, the performance of the car and how secure the car is. Just because has car belongs in a certain group does not strictly determine the cost of car insurance, many other personal factors also effect it. If you have a car which belongs in a high insurance group you can try adding alarms to lower the premiums. If you have a low grouped vehicle but still have high premiums you could look as taking out a lower cover insurance policy.

Outsurance’s chauffer service

Drinking and driving has become one of the major causes of death on South African roads and Outsurance has created a product where their clients are given an option of not driving while under the influence.

‘Buddy@OUT’ is a chauffer service offered by Outsurance, where members are provided with transport and their own personal driver to avoid drinking and driving.

The Outsurance clients are driven in their own car that insured with Outsurance by the ‘Buddy@OUT’ diver and dropped at their own home. The driver is picked up by a staff member.

Buddy@OUT is subsidised for OUTsurance insurance holders and are offered a 70% discount on their monthly subscription fee, reducing it to just R20 a month. The usual rate-per-kilometer for trips will apply, but it is still cheaper than standard taxi fares, they can also only sign up for just the months they require it.
